One sick twin...advice?

My twins are 11 months old. One of them has his first runny nose/cold as of yesterday. I'm sure the other twin isn't too far behind, as I can't keep them constantly seperated, so I don't even try. Any tips on how to make him feel better and how to get through the day? Unfortunately, it's too cold outside to go for a walk. Thanks for your help.

  • Saline spray, prop mattress up and use cool mist humidifier.

  • There's not really much you can do for a common cold.  I agree with PP about the humidifier.  We use one when the babies are sick when they are napping and at night.  Keep tissue nearby to wipe runny noses.  Get soft ones because as soon as their little noses are raw, they will fight you when it comes time to wipe.  At least mine do!  I don't use saline spray, that just seems mean.  I wouldn't want someone spraying that up my nose!  But I will use the bulb syringe to suck snot out if necessary.  We don't stay home just because of a little cold.  If we have shopping to do or whatever, we just go.  I won't let them play outside if it's cold and they are sick but if we're running errands, they are in the car or in a store pretty much the whole time so it's fine.

This !!! Same thing I do
  • I try to stay on top of sucking out the snot in the hopes that I can keep it from going to their throats or ears or head. I use the saline if they suck it up their nose and I need to get it out, and I do a really good nose cleansing session right after bath and before bed- the bath tends to get things going and I try to get everything cleared up before they go to bed at night so they can sleep better. I also give them a lot more leeway in their sleep schedule and don't wake the other one up just because one wakes up. I try to put them down earlier for naps but also do a longer wind-down routine before I put them down too. We tend to lay low and stay in the house most of the time while they're sick but if I am getting too crazy we head somewhere that's not too crowded for a change of scenery. I saw that Hyland's has little cold tablets and I was intrigued but I've never tried them- just thought I would throw that out there too :) Hope everyone feels better soon!

  • Saline spray and the bulb syringe to keep the nose clear. Boogie wipes keep their noses from getting sore. Humidifier in their room. I've used the Vicks plug ins and I think they help.

My pediatrician told us we can use the Little Noses decongestant drops but I would ask your ped first since the recommended age is 2.

  • get a Nose Frieda-the concept is gross but it works so much better than the bulb thing.
