Anyone else get the DTaP?

My Dr. told me that I should get the DTaP, which includes the tetanus and pertussis vaccine. Well I got it on Friday and my whole left arm and left side of my back is SO sore. I didn't have this much soreness from the flu vaccine. Anyone else have the soreness as well? I feel so sorry for babies! They have to get this shot at 2 months old! :(

  • Yes, I got my tdap vaccine.  The first day I wasn't sore at all, then wow, was my arm sore!  The soreness was bad nod the 2nd and 3rd day.  However, my soreness didn't last very long after that.  Hopefully you will be feeling better soon!

  • It is the tetanus portion of the shot that causes the soreness. They inject right into muscle; soreness lasts different lengths for different people. Mine was a good month of ouches. Have a coworker who used to be in medicine; she said it is the thicker viscosity of the vaccines and requires a bigger needle. As a result, takes longer for the body to absorb it from the muscle, hence the pain each time you move your arm. Sometimes a warm compress can help because it brings more blood to circulate at the site, however time is really the only solution.

  • They warned me I would be sore after it, but I wasn't. DH was sore for about three days after his though.

  • I got the TDap at 22 weeks and I don't really remember it hurting much. Now the Rhogam shot...that hurt like a #$%&^

  • My arm was a little sore, but not too bad. The nurse rubbed my arm for a few minutes after giving the injection. She said it helps distribute the injection and decreases soreness - must've worked.

I've asked about it at my last two Ob visits, and both times was told not now, you'll get it after you deliver in the hospital. O....k...

I was told the same thing! Glad to hear its not just me!

I've always heard that it's better to get it during pregnancy so that the baby can get some of the immunity benefits. Every dr. is different I guess.

  • I got the flu shot two weeks ago and had a dead arm for three days even though the nurse said it wouldn't hurt at all.

I got the Tdap on Friday, and the nurse warned me that this one would hurt, but it didn't...

    So strange!

I'm in the same boat! However, my OB had me  get the flu shot while pregnant, instead of waiting.

same story for me.  My obgyn said she didn't feel like there had been a ton of research supporting the shot while pregnant and she (personally) would wait until after delivery.  That was enough for me.  I go the flu shot, but will get the other in the hospital.

I was also told the same thing. I was worried until I read that at least two other people were told the same thing.

  • The pain is starting to ease up. I'm glad I opted to get it now. That way the baby gets some of it, plus I don't have to worry about getting anything extra after giving birth. lol. I think I'll have enough needles for one day lol.

  • Just for the record, you would be getting the TDap. The DTaP is for infants and children. The 'adult' version is called the TDaP
