Question about hunger

The past few days I haven't been hungry at all.  Like not wanting breakfast, barely eating a good size lunch or dinner, and not hungry for snacks.  I feel horrible and force myself to try and eat something but I feel like I'm not getting enough.  Is this normal at this point?

All I keep thinking is I need to eat for these babes and I'm freaking out because I know I'm not eating enough protein lately.

Re: Question about hunger

  • I'm on mobile, so can't see how far along you are. I had morning sickness and no appetite until about 16 weeks. I was able to stomach fruits and veggies, so I made myself multiple smoothies a day with a variety of produce and Chobani yogurt. A cup of good Greek yogurt will get you over 20 grams of protein. I don't like the taste of protein shakes, so the smoothies were a better option for me, plus I never dealt with constipation because of all the produce.

All that to say, yes, lack of appetite can be normal. I made up for it in the 20 week range with lots of sushi and hamburgers.

  • I'm 27 weeks.  I might try a smoothie with the yogurt.  Before I was pregnant I loved Greek yogurt but now I can't eat it by itself.  Hopefully a smoothie would get it down.  Thanks!

  • It is so funny that you posted this because I am only a day ahead of you and I am experiencing the same exact thing!  I just feel full sooner and less hungry in general and yesterday DH was on my case about not eating enough.  Right now I am forcing down a carnation instant breakfast protein shake and I am having a tough time finishing it.  I hope this is normal - maybe because our stomachs are just squished in there?

I'm glad I'm not the only one!  DH keeps saying "are you sure you're not hungry" lol. Looks like I'll be stocking up on shakes and smoothies if it keeps up.  Makes sense though that it would be our stomachs getting smushed.

  • I went through the same thing about that time but it didn't last very long...maybe a week.  After that, I think the babies went on a growth spurt and I was starving for the next week or two.  My MFM said it is completely normal for the rest of the pregnancy to go back and forth like that.

  • I went through many phases of being more and less hungry.  Do what you can, but I wouldn't fret, just trust that your body knows how much food you need and will make you hungry for it!
