Do I have to tell him?

So the other day I found out that my son and I were invited to go on a cruise to the bahamas for 4 days in January. Do I have to tell his father that we are going?  I just dont want to not tell him and him find out and then I get into trouble because I am taking him out of the state. If he tells me I can't take him then what? Everything is already paid for. It really wouldnt take away from his time with him since he oly sees him 1-2 times a month.

 What should I do?

  • I'd tell the truth.

  • I'm not sure if you'll need a passport or not for a cruise. If so both parents have to consent if you aren't married. Also, I don't know what your custody agreement looks like but my lawyer told me to notify LO's father every time I took her out of state even if it was a day trip. Something about kidnapping laws etc. I wouldn't dare dream of taking LO out of the country and not tell her father.

  • Definitely go ahead and tell him beforehand. so there's less of a chance for any misunderstandings. If you don't, and he finds out later, it just gives him an excuse to get all upset and possibly make things difficult for you.

  • i'm definetly going to let him know. and I'm going to get a letter signed from him saying he gives his consent for him to go so there wont be any issues

  • Tell him but it doesnt matter if he wants you to or not. It is not just his kid it is also yours. Hes being ridiculous if he says you cant and causes problems. If it isnt taking from his time it doesnt really matter. Just let him know when you are departing and when youll return. I wouldnt be so worried about what he thinks. He cant control your life.

Make sure it is notarized, and the dates of travel are included.
