Adoption

updated homestudy and profile question

Our social worker came over this past week to update our homestudy.  The visit was far less depressing than I had anticipated.  Actually, when she left, I felt encouraged.  In the past year there have been more placements than usual and no more families are waiting.  This means that there are only three families left in our area.  My hope/prayer is that means we will be chosen soon.

In the meantime I would like to be more proactive in our search for a birthmother. However, I do not want to use another agency or facilitator. She suggested calling my obgyn to inform them of our plan to adopt.   When I called, the receptionist asked me to make a one page letter introducing ourselves  and include a picture.

I would like to use a digital scrapbook template to make this a 8.5 x11 flyer with our letter and pic. Has anyone else done this?   What program did you use?    Our profile book was done using shutterfly, but they don't have an option for an 8.5 x11 individual scrapbook page.

Also, besides local obgyns,  any suggestions on branching out our search?

Re: updated homestudy and profile question

  • We did something similar as a news letter for our out of state family members last year. It was pretty much pictures and a letter, so kind of the same. I used pages, but photoshop would be great for that also. Also, I think walgreens.com allows you to make scrapbook pages that are pretty cheap.

Other than obgyns, I would say maybe pastors, or outreach groups that work with college and high school students? I know that one of our "outreach" people is my husband's cousin who does pro-life workshops and camps for teens and young adults on campuses in our area. I think adoption is a big part of their message. That may not be something you are interested in, but its an idea.

Good luck and I hope that you guys find your match soon! :-)

  • I *think* you could use Mixbook for what you have in mind. I'm just getting started using Mixbook, but I've heard good things about it. Some other folks on here have used it.

  • You can try mixbook. Or just use PowerPoint and print it up nicely
