Re-intro and MOS question

Hello everyone. I posted this over on the Nest Military board a few hours ago and realize its a bit slow over there so I figured it would post here too, hope thats not in bad manners. 

I have not been here in years but I'm hoping to maybe get some advice and offer support to others. 

DH is Army, currently Airborne Infantry in for 6 years, we have been married for almost 4 years, and have a 1 yr old son. He has been stationed at Ft. Bragg his entire career. I was born and raised in NC so I am very close to all of my family. I am currently in school finishing my Bachelors. He has gone back and forth and whether to get out or be a lifer. I prefer lifer. Economy sucks and he didn't go to college so the job options in the civilian world would be limited for him. We own our home in the area, so I am a little wiry of being PCSd. 

My husband has recently started thinking about reenlisting to be a fire fighter, apparently they just re-opend that as an enlisted job possibility. 

 

Do any of you know Active Duty members who are fire fighters as their mos? What is it like? Any info you may be able to provide on it would be super helpful! Thanks!

I have no answer to the FF portion, but I will say that you need to be prepared to PCS at some point. Everyone goes through it at least once I'd say, and if he's a careerist, then you better get used to the idea of multiple moves.

Airborne Infantry/being at Bragg to begin with is probably the reason he hasn't PCSed yet. My DH is also Airborne Infantry and has been here the whole time he's been in (almost 5 years). And I know a lot of other guys have been here a long time too. That being said, I don't think I've heard of any lifer staying at one place for their ENTIRE career.

Sorry, but PP is right. If he stays in you should be prepared for PCSing, you should always be prepared for that. 

My DH is ETSing and I'm VERY happy about it. He has had a terrible experience the past year and a half or so and he's been counting down his days... We're moving to MI where my family is plus he has a college degree, and I'm pretty confident he'll do ok in the economy. But I definitely understand how you feel about your's staying in. I hope everything works out well for you and your family!

I am active duty and have friends who are in the fire fighting MOS. They are commonly attached to Engineer units and train for their job a lot. That being said I am friends with one of thems wives and she is constantly alone. She says she wishes her husband had a "normal" army job so he would deploy and just come home. He is either at work or training. I dont mean to sound discouraging, but thats my experience with that MOS. What sort of questions were you looking for answers too?
