I feel like an idiot that I can't figure this out.  I'm thinking of asking DH for a Kindle Fire for Xmas and am only considering the Fire over the regular one so DS could watch shows/movies say, on long rides to the ILs'.  This is what I don't get - do you download shows/movies while connected to wifi and then you can watch them in any location or do you need the wifi WHILE you're watching it?  Because if that's the case, we'd never really use wifi dependent features and I'll stick to the regular, cheaper Kindle.

Well, so far I've only streamed movies from my Kindle.  But  do believe you are correct.  If you buy and download from a wifi spot, it is on your Kindle and you can watch wherever you want.
