Moving on from just milk?

Our daughter was born three months premature?.currently 6 months or three months corrected.  We still feed her solely breast milk.

Did you go on corrected or chronological age for adding cereal or solids?  Has anyone skipped cereal and gone straight to solids?

A friend of mine skipped the cereal all together and went straight to solids (pureed) with her little one.  I am not exactly sure why but I know she herself has a gluten intolerance and is into natural and homeopathic stuff?maybe something related to that, I'm not sure?

Just wondering what everyone else did.  I think we are going to start soon.  She is still steadily growing with just the breast milk but will progress soon.

  • I have no idea why it posted like that...basically, did you add cereal first or skip that and go to solids?  Also, did you go based on corrected age or chronological while progressing?  What month did you start?

  • We're doing it based on readiness. My boys are nearly 7 months actual, 4 months adjusted and I don't feel they're quite ready yet. They have good neck control but the trunk control isn't quite there yet. They're just now beginning to show interest when we eat. We plan to do BLW which is skipping cereal/oatmeal and purees. The key to remember is that "food before one is just for fun". Nutritional value should still come primarily from breast milk/formula even once they start to eat actual food.

  • My lo is a big guy and loves to eat so we started him on cereal in his bottle at 3 1/2 months.  Then at 4 months actual (2 months adjusted) we did cereal from a bowl for a few days and then I started mixing purees into it.  At his 4 month well visit my pedi said we could give him any fruit or veggie that he'll eat.  He is almost 5 months now and has his solids 3x's a day.
