5 Weeks! So nervous!! Going to be a long 8 months!

Just found out I am five weeks this Saturday!! Which would make baby a July baby! Summer yay! I am incredibly nervous about miscarrying because so many people I know have had one or more and I am only at five weeks they usually miscarry at 8! Also my doctor cant get me in for my first appointment till I am 13 weeks!! I called around and a lot of places are the same? Is that usual? Oh did I mention every time I get a "cramp" i get insanely nervous well turns out to just be massive gas! Oh I have a feeling this is going to be a long 8 months!!

  • Congrats! Two things I think you misunderstood The miscarriage statistic.. They do not "usually miscarry at eight." The vast majority off miscarriages are early on, and thy decrease with every week you get along.

And 13 weeks isn't really standard there are many tests you should have had by 13 weeks that's after your first trimester! Standard is 68 weeks. U would check again and maybe find a new dr.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing? I had my first appointment at 12 weeks with DD and this time it will be 8 weeks because I'm high risk this time.

     Welcome and congrats!

im in Canada and will have my first appointment at 6 weeks.  Same as last time.  If you want to do the NT scan then you would need an appointment before 12 weeks if I remember correctly.

  • I'm in Canada too here in Quebec I called around and most places would not take me till I was 12 weeks...

Found a doctor in Ontario finally that will take met at 6 because I am high risk...

I think it silly the majority won't take you till after 12 weeks like PP said that is the end of the first trimester and the 1st is very important...

  • Congrats!! I'm 5 weeks today! I know the feeling about worrying about a miscarriage. I have not had any symptoms except on & off cramping (some of which has been gas), and I keep going to the bathroom & praying I don't see red. Here's the thing, worrying isn't going to help prevent a miscarriage. Be positive, and enjoy the ride!

My Dr. doesn't have me coming in till 10 weeks. I heard a lot of places say they wait till 8-10. Not sure about the 13, but this is my first pregnancy too, so I'm as much in the dark as you are! Good luck to you!

That is really odd. Didn't realize that about Canada - do they not to an NT scan? Or do you just get the 2nd tri quad screen?

With my son almost 13 years ago I had a scan at 6 weeks because of major cramping, like not normal... but was told the first scan usually is 12-13 weeks then again at 18-20 weeks to check for gender... in my case I had another at 32 weeks cause someone decided he wanted to come early!!! But they stopped labor... he was in ground zero till 41 weeks... I went in at 4 1/2 cm to be induce...100% effaced... was induced then went into full labor 2 hours later, 3 pushes and then POP he was out. poor kid has a bump on his head from being head down for so long LOL

but he is fine... Doctor said I was made to have babies... and that I am not allowed to cough or sneeze at the end of my next pregnancy or the baby will pop out. LOL

  • Hi!

I truly enjoyed reading your post, it made me feel like my worries are normal. I am just like you, every time I get a little cramp I am so nervous of having a miscarriage. I am 6 weeks though, my doctor said that she could get me in at 8.5 weeks. So, that makes me feel a little better. Hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!

  • Welcome and congrats!!

Best advice is don't worry about miscarrying. If it happens it happens and unfortunately there's not anything you can do about it. You don't want to spend your entire first trimester worrying over it. Just try to relax and enjoy being pregnant day by day!

I'm in the US, but am a military spouse, so they sometimes do things different here. Here my first appt is not until 10-12weeks. Sucks to wait that long, but the time will go by faster than you think.

  • I am in the U.S!   I called 2-4 OBGYN's and none could get me in sooner than 10 weeks! It will be a long 6 weeks thats all I know bu It will all be worth the wait! I have been going to my doctor since I was 15 and many people go to her so I guess I will just have to trust her judegement...
  • Congrats!

I already had my first OB exam/ultrasound this week, confirmed I'm about 5wks along. I go back for another ultrasound at 8wks to hopefully hear heartbeat.  All drs are different as far as when they'll let you come in, I'd check around and see if someone else can get you in sooner if you really need that peace of mind.  Also, I've had sore/crampy stomach off so far, but I think it's just gas and my ligaments stretching?

    Stay Positive!
