OH what a day! So LO DOES have RSV
right now its not too bad....just the coughing, sneezing, congestion with thick green boogers. His lungs sound ok for now, but his doctor said I'm going to really have to watch for any breathing difficulties and call right away if he has any respiratory issues because they can get bad and get bad really fast. She said the current symptoms can last 2 weeks and the cough can last 6 weeks. I'm so scared it'll get bad and he'll end up in the hospital....praying thats not the case. As if him getting it isn't bad enough, I'm supposed to go back to work on Monday. I'm going to talk to my boss and see if I can get one more week off. I almost canceled his doctors appointment today too. I thought for sure she would say that it's just a cold. Thank goodness that I went and that when I called I mentioned that his brother had bloodshot eyes....I've NEVER heard that it is a symptom of rsv!!
Here's the kicker- If you remember, LO got denied synagis because he will be 3 months tomorrow and didn't qualify because they have to be under 3 months at the start of rsv season for coverage for his age group. I pretty much had a nervous breakdown over the phone with the lady who makes the decisions for our insurance company a few weeks ago when he was denied for the 3rd time. I hung up with her knowing he didn't qualify based on AAP guidelines and she called me back about 30 minutes later to tell me she was taking my appeal letter with her to a monthly employee health claims meeting at the end of the month...yesterday. (My DH works for the hospital) Well about an hour after we get home from the doctor when he is diagnosed with rsv I get a call from the nurse saying they just got approval for one months coverage of synagis. Are you kidding me!? I can't help but laugh at the irony! I told the nurse that he was just diagnosed with rsv today and he was like NO-WAY! ugh....so once he gets over this he is able to get one month of synagis. I'm so happy that he will be covered for one month, but talk about a day late and a dollar short type of situation!!!
Re: Update- LO might have RSV and synagis update
I'm sorry he got RSV. Hopefully he is well soon!
I will say that my DD got 4 months of synagis and still ended up with RSV at the end of the season. So it's not a silver bullet.
Oh poor little one. Keeping my fingers xed that he is feeling better very soon.
