Baby Shower Save the Date?

We aren't going to have my shower until Jan 13, but I was thinking about letting everyone know where we're registered at before Black Friday shopping so they could (hopefully) save some money.  How tacky do y'all think it would be to do a sort of Save-the-Date? Or should we just create a Facebook event or text/call people? Or should we just assume that people will buy the gifts when they want to?

Re: Baby Shower Save the Date?

  • People probably aren't going to be buying you gifts months in advance. I would just have you hostess put where you are registered in the invite.

  • I say this truly not trying to sound witchy -  a baby shower is not a wedding so they don't warrant Save the Dates.  People will buy gifts probably right before your shower and (again, no offense), your shower gift will likely not be on their Black Friday shopping lists - except for maybe grandmothers' or close family member's lists, in which case, they would probably ask you what you need and/or if you are registered. I would have your shower host send a paper invitation or Evite (if you prefer the electronic method) about 3-4 weeks before your shower date.

  • A baby shower isn't an event that calls for a save the date so assume that people will buy gifts when they want to. Most probably won't purchase anything until the week of, if not later.

  • Thank y'all for your input! I was having a hard time trying to decide what to do so I definitely needed advice.
  • A baby shower is NOT a wedding.

  • Actually I sent Save The Date info via email to the people that would have to travel for my shower in case they wanted to make travel arrangements, etc.  Out of about 80 people I probably sent about 20 (via email).  I would not send or do them just so people could pick up things on Black Friday.  The people that are really close to you (mom, MIL, sister, sister-in-law, etc) will most likely know when your shower is so if they want to look for deals at that time then they can.

Please don't send out a save the date or make a FB event. If you have to ask how tacky something is, odds are it shouldn't be done.

    Absolutely this.

  • Your intentions are honorable but delivery is not.

People know you're pregnant, right?  They probably know you're having a shower.  It's 2012 and I'm sure they know about registries.  If your friends/family care that much about saving money, they'll put the two together and do it on their own.

He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be.  He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.

    This.

Also, I second other PPs suggestion of "if you have to ask..." in this situation and in general.
