Did anyone deliver at Unity?

I'm considering switching OB practices and the new clinic (Allina OB/Gyn Specialists in Fridley) delivers at Unity Hospital. Has anyone delivered there? Any experiences or advice? Also, if you are a patient at that clinic, any recommendations for a doctor?

Re: Did anyone deliver at Unity?

  • I did, but I don't go to that clinic in Fridley.  My OB is out of the Blaine clinic, but at the time he was in private practice in C.oon Rapids.

I had no complaints, I had a good experience and I absolutely love my OB.

  • I did and loved it. the dr's and nurses were amazing.
My ob is dr Lawson male. They do rotate as far as who is on call. I also saw Dr Wenda male from time to time. Dr Lawson often runs behind so if that bothers you you might not like that but he never rushes appointments and will sit and answer questions as long as needed. He even came over special to do my delivery because he promised to be there and he switched his in call day with someone last minute he actually delivered me and my brother so I really wanted him delivering my DD
During delivery a few times a c section came up because how long i had been pushing, but because DD was safe still my dr left it up to me and I had a vaginal birth in the end. Just took quite some time and work but I'm thankful that he left it up to me but would have done it if needed of course.

  • Male was supposed to be in parenthesis but I guess mobile typing doesn't allow that haha. But I know some prefer one over the other I just prefer male Drs.

  • I had 4 choices for hospitals Mercy, Unity, Maple Grove, and Princeton. My Doctor told me nobody really goes to Mercy or Unity any more and she doesn't recomend it either. She didn't really tell me why but I took her advice and went to Maple Grove. My sister on the other hand has had all 3 of her kids there and had a HORRIFIC time there. Not only was her births hard but the doctors were horrific too.

  • The Docs at that group are wonderful in clinic. I especially love Dr. Wenda. My birth experience there with DD # 1 was horrible. I won't go into my whole story, but the epidural didn't work, and no one thought toremove it,and try again. I had to push, but they wouldn't let me until the Dr came in....I was in so much pain, and no one seemed to care, The Dr. I had for delivery is no longer there, though.

The nurses were very nice, with the exception of the lactation consultants. They made me feel like the troubles I had getting my daughter to latch and eat were all my fault. They we very unsupportive. I actaully left the day after giving birth because I just didn't feel comfortable.

  • I saw Dr. Wenda and loved him! I also saw Dr. Lawson a few times and really like him too. The nursing staff at both the clinic and Unity are great. I used to work at Unity and I can tell you those nurses on the mom baby unit love what they do and were very helpful to a first time mom.
