My pediatrician recommended that we start solids. My baby is 5 months old and I exclusively pump. He is 17 pounds and drinks 30-36 ounces of breast milk a day.
I am wondering, how did you start solids? I have read that some people start with rice and others with vegetables. If you feed them rice, how much rice and breastmilk did you mix together?
If you started with vegetables, how much did you start with and how much are you feeding them now?
Do they really need rice or oatmeal?
Thanks for any advice. I am so confused!

We started with Barley and just did 1 tablespoon and mixed it with breast milk. We did that for about a week then introudced avocados once a day for a week (one ice cube serving) then the next week tried a different food (sweet potatoes) and stuck to one ice cube serving a day. Since he has been on a solids a month now we do twice a day and at each serving do 2 ice cubes worth. We try to do one fruit and one vegetable a day. We usually feed him 30 min- 1 hour after a bottle and he still seems to eat about the same amount of breast milk.
