International Work Trip

I am taking a trip next week for work to Canada. Sunday to Wednesday - I am doing an overnight flight so that I can be back sooner (Wednesday morning v. Wednesday evening).

I really wanted to bring my baby who is 3 months old, but with the high cost of plane tickets and a full itinerary, it is probably best to leave him at home with his nanny and DH.

I'm going to bring my pump, so I don't lose my supply. Has anyone been away from their baby and still maintained supply?? Any tips? How do I pump in an airport? I have a Medela double electric pump.

I do not plan to keep any of the milk since it might be a big hassle, and I have a decent freezer stash. I also don't feel like I will be able to keep the milk cold during transit as I will be travelling 13-14 hours.

Any tips or advice?

PS Do you think I made the right choice in not bringing my baby?

Re: International Work Trip

  • I think you made the right decision.

There are family bathrooms at airports with plugs for your pump.  Plan to pump often and whenever you get the chance.  I'll be fine.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am

  • I was gone for 4 days and just made sure to pump whenever I could. The company knew I was pumping so I was allowed to leave at designated times. If you pump and drink lots of water and maybe take fenugreek it hopefully will not be a porblem. Good luck
  • Thanks! I will carry water with me wherever I go, and I'll try to pump when I can! I hope I've still got milk when I get home.
