I'm not really for or against vaccinations, sort of neutral, but am interested in hearing the reasons why NOT to get my baby vaccinated and for what vaccinations? All? Some? Just one?
Read Dr. Sears' book. He has no training in vaccinations whatsoever, as states the disclaimer in his book, but at least he encourages an alternate schedule which is much more intelligent than not vaccinating will ever be.
Next, go read some peer reviewed scientific studies on sites such as the CDC, AAP, and WHO about how important vaccinations are for the well-being of your child.
I read Dr. Sears vaccination book and really liked it. It was non biased and had both sides in it. We are following the alternative schedule. Mainly because I did not like the fact that he would be get 4 or 5 shots at once, many cocktail blends. I was afraid he might have a reaction and then not know what vaccine caused it. By doing the alternative route, we are able to get one or two at a time. I feel much better doing it that way

1) DIscuss the alternative with your pedi. We did and decided against it-- they use that schedule for a reason.
2) Not everyone can get all vaccines. We get our vaccines for them.
3) The logic of herd immunity is faulty, I think. Ok so there is herd immunity so we decide not to vaccinate our kids. Cool, less risk for my kid. Oops everyone decided the same thing (and increasing numbers have). Now that means less herd immunity and my kid is much more likely to get something deadly.
I'd rather have a kid with an allergic reaction, autism (which is not linked to vaccines, btw), etc than have a kid that is much more likely to die from a preventable disease.
So, you asked to hear from antivax people, but I only saw one person say anything about not getting a certain vaccine because of allergy.
I guess I'll be the one person on this forum who doesn't plan to vaccinate. I'm ok with that. I'm on my mobile, so bear with me...
First, I don't believe in the efficacy of vaccines. There isn't sufficient evidence to show that vaccines eradicate disease, or result in healthier people. The decrease in epidemics and deaths from disease occurred while personal hygiene was also on the rise, not just vaccines. Plus, some studies have shown that vaccinated children are sicker more often that unvaccinated children. I agree that many once deadly diseases are now preventable, but I don't believe the answer lies in vaccines, but rather in preventative care and as well as widely accessible "reactionary" care, if you will.
Second, there are the creepy additives and preservatives to consider. Mercury should be avoided, but really, it should never be injected directly into your blood stream. MSG is an excitotoxin that can damage your brain. Formaldehyde... Yikes. Even the DHHS says that's a carcinogen! Yes, these are all present in very tiny amounts per vaccine. However, consider how many vaccines babies and children are advised to get. Any amount of a toxic chemical injected directly into the bloodstream of my child is too much in my book. That's just my opinion.
Here's a link to an article about additives in vaccines. Yep, it's a little biased. But so are the CDC, WHO, and AAP. They seem to be pretty favorable of the big pharmaceutical companies and vax producers. I have yet to find truly unbiased articles on this subject... Or any controversial subject of any real significance for that matter!
Lastly, let's not forget when Baxter, Inc shipped batches of the wrong flu vaccine to the 18 different countries resulting in hundreds of deaths. Or when the Polio vaccine killed thousands in India. THOSE diseases and deaths were preventable, yet vaccines caused them.
In the end, we happily live under conditions where each parent is free to choose whether to vaccinate their child. I'm glad for that. I'm glad there's an open debate about these pressing health issues. I personally have decided not to vaccinate until I am persuaded otherwise. But that's just me.
The snarky posts are killing me. Thank you, Runaway, for speaking another perspective. Personally we chose to selectively vaccinate on a delayed schedule because of a terrible vaccine reaction in my immediate family member. I think it's really important to self-educate if you have any doubts about vaccinations because in the end it is your family that will have to deal with the consequences if your LO has a reaction - do your homework so you can make peace with the risks vs. benefits. I know of another family whose child was also severely brain damaged after vaccination...it doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
Personally the risks of the flu or chicken pox are nothing compared to what happened to my brother...tetanus on the other hand, horrible suffering if you contract it and the toxin is commonly in our environment...1 in 4 don't survive - that I wasn't willing to take a chance on...or rather I was willing to chance the neurotoxins in that vaccine over my child's risk of contracting tetanus. Whooping cough is making its rounds in our community and with a newborn on the way, I want my family vaccinated. I am grateful for vaccinations, but I do not assume that everything that is available to us is what's best for us.
So, you asked to hear from antivax people, but I only saw one person say anything about not getting a certain vaccine because of allergy.

FALSE. Countries that had almost eradicated polio are finding resurgences now that vacciantion rates are declining. They didn't suddenly stop washing their hands. Plenty of countries have outbreaks of things like measles and it was directly related to a decrease in vaccinations. Your logic is faulty. Yes, improed hygiene has helped, but not nearly as much as vaccinations.
I hope your kids don't get sick. But even more, I hope your kids don't get someone else's baby or immune compromised child get truly sick. My husband and my friend's toddler who just finished chemo and my preemie say, "Thanks a lot." to people like you who put them in danger.
The ignorance in this post is truly astounding. First of all, anyone can find online links or people to give the other side of any question.
But the facts are the facts. Vaccination has saved millions of childrens lives and is one of the greatest breakthroughs of modern medicine. Most of our parents and grandparents grew up in a time without vaccination, and even if they don't know it, many of their little friends or people they knew died without vaccinations.
Perfect fact to make anyone think they should get vaccinated, and if you still question it, well, then you I really wouldn't know what to say to you:
In 1952, polio paralyzed more than 21,000 people. In 2002, there were no cases of polio in the United States. Because of vaccinations!

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have
I usually don't post on these issues bc of the rude, snarky people. But I am pregnant with my 4th and am considering not vaccinating this one, but I still have more research to do. My first has been fully vaccinated, bc I was 18 when I had him and I just didn't question anything at that point in my life. My 2nd has been fully vaccinated until age 2, but I will probably not do the kindergarten vaccinations. I started questioning vaccines when I was pregnant with my 3rd, but was on the fence still, so I just did them anyway. She has all of them except for her 2 yr old shots, I never took her in for those.
My thing is all the crap they put in the vaccines...next time you go to the dr. ask to see the ingredients in the vaccines on the box or whatever they come in...I wonder if they would even show you. Between all the mercury, aluminum, and other nasty chemicals...I am just not sure about shooting all that into my child's body. You can always get vaccinated later, but you can never take them back out of your body. And you never know if your kid is genetically predisposed to have a reaction. My kids never did, but there are many who do react badly. My husband is probably not on the same page as me, so it will be something we will have to discuss about our new baby. But the chemicals really concern me and I think it's something to look in to. And many people who are vaccinated still get sick (flu, pertusis)
I'm not completely one way or the other at this point, but I will definitely be thoroughly researching all the additives and preservatives first, before I decide to inject anything else into my kids.

Ok, I am not against vaccines. I am very pro vaccine, but I can't let this one go. I totally understand the preservatives and extra additives issue and that is something to consider for sure. However, before I started staying home I was a public health nurse, and I can not let the paragraph about the efficacy of vaccines go. That paragraph is not correct. Vaccines have absolutely eradicated diseases. If you are vaccinated, you will not get the disease, or with some it will be a very mild case (such as chickenpox). Read about how immunity works if you would like to understand better. If you need more in-depth explanation I would be happy to do that for you, but vaccines ARE effective!
There are lots of things to consider so be sure you do plenty of research on your own. The doctor who linked autism to vaccines was proven incorrect and that is no longer an accepted fact. Good luck with your decision...one thing I always think about is how I would feel if my child got a disease and died or was very sick and I could have prevented it with a vaccine. But like I said, there are many more things to consider.
Re: For those against vaccinations...
I can understand wanting to be more informed about something being injected into your baby. Here are some books to get more information.
Vaccinations: A Thoughtful Parent's Guide: How to Make Safe, Sensible Decisions about the Risks, Benefits, and Alternatives
The Vaccine Book: Making the Right Decision for Your Child
What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About(TM) Children's Vaccinations
For the record, we are doing an alternative schedule.
