Book suggestions??

Do any of you that have gone through this before have any suggestions of pregnancy books. Or is anyone reading any now for the first time that they really like? My cousin suggested Belly Laughs, have any of you checked it out?

  • I'm reading What to Expect While You're Expecting, my doctor recommened it to me.

  • What to Expect when you're Expecting is a good all around reference for information. I read Belly Laughs. It was crude but pretty funny at times. Not a necessity and she was a bit over dramatic now looking back, but if you like that kind of humor you might like it. Entertaining if nothing else.

  • I have What to Expect When You're Expecting

    Your Pregnancy Week by Week

The Mother of all Pregnancy Books

The last one gives you more overall info about pregnancy, while previous two go more in depth.

  • After you are done reading 'what to expect when you're expecting' I suggest you read 'what to expect the first year' as after the baby comes there is no more time for reading and it is good to know what is in the future. It will save you a million phone calls to the ped.

Also, I read Dr.Oz's 'You - having a baby' and loved it.

Closer to delivery I can not recommend enough 'Happiest baby on the block' there is even a DVD. We found this 3 months in last time and it SAVED our sanity.

  • Thank you for the suggestions after birth too! I'm such a planner soi need to know every possible detail even if it doesn't go that way, I still want to know :)

What to Expect When You're Expecting (and the book about the first year.)

Great Expectations by Sandy Jones. It has a lot of same information as WTEWYE, but also has a lot that isn't there, including information about what to do when you first get home and product reviews.

If your partner is looking for a book to read, my husband really liked The Expectant Father by Armin A Brott. I glanced through it and it did a good job of explaining things without going too in-depth.

  • Maybe it's just me but I really thought What to Expect When You're Expecting was pretty worthless. I felt like it didn't really tell me anything that I hadn't read on the bump and babycenter updates, etc.... very high level.
I found The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding and Natural Childbirth The Bradley Way to be the best books that I got the most useful info from.
I definitely want to read Belly Laughs this time around since a friend said it was hilarious.

  • Baby Bargains was the book that got the most use. It helped me figure out what gear I needed, what brands, etc.

I didn't like how What to Expect was laid out. A lot of the information is presented in the form of Q&As and I prefer a book that lays it out in more textbook format. I can't even remember what ones I liked best; I checked out a lot from the library.

For childbirth preparation, I liked the Bradley book.

  • If anyone finds out they are having twins, I recommend Dr. Luke's book "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads."

Some of the advice was a little crazy to me (the food recommendations) but it was overall a great book that helped me get through my pregnancy last time.
