IVF Consult tomorrow

Hey all!  I promised myself I would try to stay off the bump this cycle since it's a break cycle, but I can't resist.  I, of course, have some questions and this is the only place I know to go!  So tomorrow (after 4 failed IUIs)I have my IVF consultation.  This is new for me, so I'm just wondering what I should ask.  I typically have tons of questions, but I don't even know where to start.  Any tips for me?

 Thanks!

  • Good luck!  Here are a few possible questions:

*Pretests required, if so what and when?

*Any other appointments needed such as shot classes previous to cycle start?

*Timing as to when you can start an IVF cycle, wait list, etc.

    *Protocol and medicines used?

*Ask for a mock cycle protocol to see when you would have appointments, when you might have injections etc.

*Chance of success at their clinic according to your age and dx

    *Their SART score

*A breakdown of all costs and what is included and not

*Are monitoring and labs included or separate?

*Lab fees for creating and preserving embryos, what are their criteria for freezing?

*How will you get test results

*Whom should you contact during the cycle, nurse, IVF coordinator, lab etc.

*Does a nurse or RE do ultrasounds?

    *Hours for monitoring appointments

*Will ER and ET be at clinic or a surgical center

*Will ER be a surgery or a procedure?

Good Luck it seems daunting but once you start and have your protocol it will make sense.  Feel free to ask me anything anytime too!!!

  • My IF journey this time around sounds almost identical to yours. I'm not sure how your doctors office handles IVF consults but for us we had a meeting with the doctor and financial advisor and then had a separate IVF education day. I thought at first it was a lot but it actually gave me time to ask questions I may have forgotten. Honestly my best advice is to just try to take it all in during that first appointment. I just had my second monitoring appointment today so we are finally in the home stretch. If you have any questions please feel free to message me. Best of luck moving forward. :)
