International Bumpies

What should DH bring back from the States?

DH is leaving Thursday on a business trip back to the States for 10 days.  He asked if there was anything else he could bring back. The things I have alreay ordered that are waiting for him in the States are Bumgenuis CDs, Carter fleecy footie pjs, and various other baby clothes.

What do you ask people to bring you, or what do you pick up from the States that you find difficult or expsenive to get elsewhere?

  • Cheetos and Instant Quaker Oatmeal packets?

Oh, you're talking about baby stuff? I've had my parents bring over baby products like medication (infant's Tylenol and Advil, for example). Here a lot of kid's medicine is suppositories, and I prefer giving her artificially grape-flavored liquid to shoving something up her butt (although I've done that before, too).

  • mmm...Cheetos :)

No it does not have to be just baby things! Things for DD is usually what pops up first on my list...

  • Medicine in general is so, so much easier and cheaper to buy in the states. I usually have people bring over a giant thing of Tylenol or Advil or whatever you take. They sell medicine in such teeny tiny packages here. The only thing that ever worked for me with a cold was Advil Cold and Sinus so I stock up on that. And dental floss, I swear the stuff here is painful!

After so many years here, my list is pretty short and we tend not to travel with too much spare space. DH just brought me some onesies from our favourite sports teams in the states, and we've brought back American themed paper napkins for Thanksgiving and 4th of July. Food wise, Cheez-It's and some candy that we still miss.

  • What about sippy cups, plates/spoons, baby to-go containers?  We've had a huge explosion and pouch-type (often organic) baby food that's pretty darn convenient.  Any toys that are cheaper and you've had your eye on?  And you know, coffee, if he's going to Seattle though I know there's an import restriction right?

Advil Cold & Sinus: YES! We get a big bottle of the liqui-gels when we are home. Stuff works like a charm when you need it.

Thank you for enlightening me on the dental floss being terrible. Kept thinking I was buying the wrong brand. Nope, just how they roll over here.

  • Frank's Red Hot Sauce, Lara Bars and canned pumpkin would be on my list right now.

  • Stick out tongueok I am feeling realllly lucky I have access to a commissary with American products.

I would want a carne asada burrito but I don't think that would ship well

  • I'm heading back to the US this week and will be bringing back several bottles of Zinfandel.  Even though CA produces 33% more wine than all of Australia, decent Californian reds are next to impossible to find here.

When we lived in Europe we had people bring us OTC meds, Franks, ranch packets, certain salsas, and a few other food stuffs.

  • A breast pump? Mmmmm...dunno. Maybe a nice selection of wine?

  • After eleven years abroad, the only things I bring back are ocello sponges. But I tend to bring back 30 or so.

  • We bring back Jiffy corn muffin mix :) Everything else I've managed to figure out decent replacements for or make from scratch...no wait, I do love a conditioner that you can't get over here so I ask for that every so often too :)
