SAHM pumping schedule

I still have a while until DS2 is here, but I tend to do better when I feel like I have "plans" of what to expect.

I would ideally like to have a stash so DH could (eventually) take over a late night feeding.  I go to bed early and he stays up late so that could allow me a few extra hours of sleep.  I would also like to be able to provide a bottle while out doing errands or if someone else is watching the baby.

If you stay home and pump, how does your schedule typically work?  Do set times work better and how do you plan them around babies feedings?

TIA!

Re: SAHM pumping schedule

  • Honestly that idea sounds good in theory but it really isn't that simple. In order to keep your supply up you need to pump whenever baby eats from a bottle. For us it wasn't worth the hassle, as I would have had to be up pumping while DH fed LO. It was just easier to do it myself and go back to bed.

  • I have always had the most milk first thing in the morning.  So with both my kids, I would BF as soon as I woke up, and then pump right after.  I always get a substantial amount doing this.

Also, I go to sleep around 10pm and DH gives a bottle around 1am, so when baby wakes up around 4-5am I feed her, and then pump afterwards, and throw that milk in the fridge, then pump again after the 8-9am feeding.

    Good luck!

  • I EP' set times . 2x a day, 10 am 10 pm.  It's much easier than trying to do it when LO eats... That's what I did early on and had suppy trouble. When I went to set times it got lots easier. Then I had a pretty good oversupply going. Now I just have a minimal over supply.. I freeze around 4-6 oz a day.
