How'd it go at the dentist? Hoping things weren't as bad as you were expecting!

Re: KleMcK

  • I'm going to need a lot of work done. The dentist wasn't very comfortable doing it himself, since I was obviously very anxious. He referred me to another dentist across town who can knock me out, so I have a consult next week and then hopefully another appointment after that to get my tooth fixed. Thanks for thinking of me.

We have a "sedation dentistry" place near here. Is that the sort of thing you'll be doing? I've always thought that if I needed a lot done, that sedation thing would be the way to go!

It's IV Sedation that the guy does. I don't know much more about it, but the dentist I saw seemed to think I'd need more than the valium he could provide. This also makes me nervous - I didn't have an IV or heplock in L&D even. But it's the lesser of two evils, I guess. I guess I need to learn how to get over this stuff...

It's completely legit to have fears of this sort of thing. When I was in L&D and they were telling me I might have to have a c-section (I didn't end up with one), I went into near hysterics. Everyone has something they're afraid of. Good luck!

  • I hope they're able to get you in quickly and get you taken care of with no problems! I know that the anxiety from it all is real...I've seen my sister almost hyperventilate. I am curious as to why they're wanting to knock you out completely and not just give you laughing gas? Either way, hope it all goes well.

I have no idea, they didn't mention it as an option. I have a consult with the other dentist next week, so I'm hoping he'll lay out my options more clearly, but they just kept mentioning IV sedation.
