Pregnant after a Loss

Need Opinions

My HCG is still rising even though there is nothing on the u/s it was 351 today up from 250 saturday. My OB said we could do a D+E and see if they get any villi, could do a lap but she doesn't think she will be able to see anything because they cannot see it on u/s or we can wait. I chose to wait until Friday after the hurricane leaves to do anothes u/s. I just don't know what to do, opinions?

Re: Need Opinions

  • It seems like waiting poses no harm, and would be the right thing to do. That's what I would do at this point, just wait and see because it is so early.

    I agree.  GL!

I agree with the PPs.  There is no harm in waiting it out other than you'll have to be in limbo a little longer.  FX for good news on Friday.

I disagree somewhat with this.  It sounds like your doctor is still concerned about an ectopic pregnancy, and with an ectopic pregnancy waiting can increase the risk of rupture.  So waiting is not completely risk-free.  I hope she advised you to treat this as if it might be ectopic until you can get the final diagnosis--that usually means no working out/going to the gym and no BD to reduce the risk of rupture.

I would personally want my doctor to take a stronger role in delineating the safest course in this situation. I honestly don't know what that is, so I don't know how to advise you.  I'd probably pick either waiting or the D&E.  Before the D&E, I'd want the doctor to be certain that this isn't a viable pregnancy, so if she can't guarantee that, then there is a good reason to wait it out.  Also, can they keep testing your hCG every 48 hours while you wait this out? That might add some helpful information about how things are going.

I agree with this. Since you are worried about the ectopic, just make sure to go to the E.R. if you have any pain at all. Just a lot of luck.

We lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat. Our rainbow was born 05/22/13 and was worth all we went through.

I agree with Killian.  I hope it's not, but it sounds like it could be ectopic.  If you're not in any pain, I would wait a little bit, but not much longer.  You can be treated medically with Methotrexate in order to avoid surgery of any sort...as long as you aren't in pain or you hcg isn't too high which right now it isn't.
    3 ectopic pregnancies (EDD's 1/30/12-tube removed, 6/2/12-methotrexate and 10/2/12-methotrexate)
IVF and Natural FET resulted in BFN's and a hole in our wallets
Natural BFP #4 on 9/7/12 gave us our miracle on 5/18/13
