XP: Recovering from internal tear

I had an internal muscle tear during the delivery of my LO. I still dont feel completely right. It still feels open and like I have a constant air bubble stuck under my pubic bone. I also get very achey where my tear was after standing or walking for a long time. I'm going to physical therapy, waiting to see some changes. My GYN doesnt see anything abnormal, so no prolapse, as I had suspected. She keeps telling me its just my new mommy vagina and that it will feel different. I'm 10 weeks postpartum now. Any have any similar experiences? When did you feel more normal?

-BTW sorry I haven't been active in months, I think I need to get back to it though. Most of my friends don't have children yet, so I don't have anyone to talk to about these things except my DR. It'd be nice to get some different perspectives.  Thanks you wonderful Mommas!

Re: XP: Recovering from internal tear

  • I had a second degree internal tear that took awhile to heal.  I was feeling irritated, sore, and it stung a little when I went to the bathroom.  At my 6 w pp visit the OB said it looked normal down there but there were still places that had not healed yet.  By 9 weeks it had healed and I felt a lot better.  Now at 14 weeks I feel pretty normal down there and even DTD! I still get sore if I stand or sit for long periods of time, which I think is just from my muscles being weaker after L&D.  I am doing Kegels again so hopefully those will help the muscle tone.  It is good that your OB said everything looks OK. Just give yourself some time and maybe try some Kegels to help with the muscle tone. Remember things will be different down there, you pushed a baby out! Hang in there, it will get better!
