Soft Inserts for Breast Pumps?

Anyone use a soft insert in the flange of their breast pump?

I have the Ameda Purly Your Ultra.  I'm using the 25 mm flange.  I think its a little big because my areola is pulled into the flange and rubes.  I was thinking about getting a smaller flange.  Ameda makes 2 smaller inserts that fit into the 25 mm flange - One reduced it to 22.5 mm, and the other is a soft insert that reduced it to 21 mm (and stimulates the aerola).  I'm guessing the soft ones would be more comfortable than the hard ones.  However I'm afraid the soft one might be too small (21 mm).

Anyone use a soft insert in the flange of their breast pump (regardless of the brand / size)?  What are the pros and cons of the soft ones?  Does anyone know if any other brand of soft flange inserts fit the Ameda pump?

TIA

Re: Soft Inserts for Breast Pumps?

  • I don't use the soft inserts - medela doesn't make them anymore :o( But my friend who's a lactation consultant said they work exactly the same, just more comfortable. She can't understand why medela stopped making them. I'd say try it! I wish I could ;o)

  • My LC gave me some soft inserts and they helped a ton. I'm not sure the brand, but I am using a different brand than my pump and they work great. Not sure of pros/cons... sorry.
