toning thighs while pg

Is it possible? Any recommendations to toning and slimming thighs while PG? I'm 24 wks and don't want to buy more maternity clothes because of my ever growing thighs. I'm very active and eat healthy. I have pcos so I'm use to working hard to maintain my figure. But geez, my thighs out of control lol

Re: toning thighs while pg

  • It is impossible to both lose and gain weight at the same time:  your body is either in a deficit of calories and loses weight, or it carries a surplus and you gain.  Your job while pregnant is to gain healthy weight for the baby.

However, you can minimize weight gain to non-baby areas of your body by sticking to a very clean diet and not taking in more calories than you need to gain a pound a week.  Avoiding processed and "white" foods (flour, sugar, etc.) makes a huge difference.

Additionally, unless your doctor has limited your exercise, there is no reason not to do as many lunges, squats, deadlifts, side-lunges, kettlebell swings, weighted step-ups and other resistance exercises as you want.  Staying on top of your cardio also is very important.

I'm 37.5 weeks now and I'm still running 5 miles a day and doing heavy weights three times a week.  My pre-pregnancy pants would still fit if I didn't have the baby in the way!

I agree with all of this (hi again tasiaceleste!) It all depends on what you did Pre-pregnancy. If you are new to squats, start with air squats & lunges. If you are new to lifting, start with very little weight and work your way up. Your body will tell you if a movement isn't a good idea, or if the weight is too much. I have maintained a great workout regiment throughout my pregnancy and feel fabulous :)
