progesterone shots to prevent preterm labor?

Wondering if anyone has any experience with this?  I had my DD at 35 weeks after a completely uneventful pregnancy and they never determined what caused me to go into early labor so when we went for the 1st tri screening the nurse/ counselor that we met with talked alot about my being considered high risk because of that and that they would recommend progesterone injections weekly starting at 16 weeks.  I was a bit taken by surprise because when I had my intake with a nurse at my OB's she said I wouldn't be considered high risk, that they'd just monitor me a bit closer.  So we have a few more weeks before we have to decide and I'm hoping to get some insight from other moms who've had some similar experiences.  TIA!!!!

I had my son at 36 weeks. Like you had a really uneventful pregnancy.  My ob just said that he would start to check my cervix earlier.  He mentioned the shots, but said he thinks they will be unnecessary.  Did they give you any reason last time? And just curious, did your water break? Mine did.

  • haha, no worries, it's helpful to hear from others in similar situations!  So, yes, my water broke.  My OB seemed much less concerned than the nurse at maternal fetal medicine, so I don't really know what to make of that either.  I had my 1st OB appt. shortly after my screening so I told my OB what the nurse said about the injections and that they had already scheduled me for a 16 week U/S in addition to the 18 week one so as to measure my cervix and she was really just kinda like oh, ok.  She explained a bit more about the progesterone and said that she didn't feel strongly that I needed it since I didn't go super early, but that it is recommended.  I kinda got the feeling that she wouldn't have even told me about it...
