Just checking in, and some birth story details

 Hi ladies!

I've been completely MIA but I was hit with the baby blues pretty bad, plus we've had my parents and MIL in the house since we came home (all with their own opinions) so it's been a bit overwhelming. Apologies in advance because I'm trying to add a pic but I have no idea if it's working or will screw up my post....

I can't believe my little guy is one week old today! Charlie was born Oct 21, after two days of contractions at home between 7-10 minutes apart. That was a load of fun, ha. We finally caved and went to the hospital Saturday night around 8pm, with contractions 6 minutes apart. Because I was overdue, they admitted me and gave me an epidural immediately. OMG, FINALLY! It was the biggest relief ever, as I had literally been crying and bent over in pain for two days ha. When I got there I was 2cm dilated. About 20 minutes after the epi, a resident came in to check me, and literally as she was going in, my water broke. Doh. All over her. haha. My DH couldn't stop laughing. At that point she was like, ok you're 8 cm. Um, what? No way. So they called my OB, who was like, no you're only 6. Thanks for the false hope!

At that point, they put a baby monitor on me and we had a bit of a scare b/c Charlie's heartbeat kept dropping very low - at one point the OB said that we had to do an emergency c-section. I've never seen a room fill so fast with people. Thankfully she waited a few minutes and his heartbeat went up. At that point (around 11pm) they gave me meds to stop the contractions so his HB could go up some more (really? Stop them? After waiting for so long to get them close together? Ha) That worked, and when he was stable they gave me pitocin, probably around 1am. By 10am I was fully dilated but he still hadn't dropped. The nurses told me to push anyway - and 20 minutes later he was out! The OB almost missed it because she was doing her rounds, and literally came running in to catch him. Nothing like the nurse saying, hold him in, hold him in. Um, what? Haha. But he was perfect, and we are absolutely in love. The only thing was that his gloucose was low and he wasn't latching, so they had to give him formula at the hospital. Since then we've been supplementing because I'm just not getting enough (even when pumping) but it's a work in progress and I'm trying to not feel guilty about it. At his 1st pedi appt, he was almost back up to his birth weight (he was 7lb 1 oz at birth, 7lb at the first appt) and doing great.

Thanks for reading - if you made it this far you get a cookie Smile
