Change before or after feedings?

Do you change your LO before feeding or after? Sometimes he will wake up with a wet diaper for a feeding, but then he will usually poop while feeding (not all the time), but I hate to wake him up after feeding....

Re: Change before or after feedings?

  • I will usually change between sides to wake up dd so she can have a good feed.

  • Before because he has reflux and I want to minimize how much jostling around he gets after eating.
  • Usually before so I don't have to wake him after he eats.

  • I change her after. I don't want her to associate eating with sleeping and plus she usually goes while she eats. She is normally pretty easy to put to sleep so I don't mind if she gets woken up by the diaper change.

  • ETA: If I knew he pooped, I'd change him.
  • I usually do beforehand. Sometimes she's too hungry and will cry on the changing table so I'll do it afterwards.

  • I normally do it before my ds eats and then after. That way if he falls asleep after he wont overfill his diaper.

    I do the same.

  • I would only change a diaper when it's wet or dirty, whether that's before or after he slept. It was usually before. If he went while sleeping, I never woke him up. It can wait until he wakes because at that age they don't sleep long anyway and the dirty diapers usually wake them anyway.

  • Would you be a bad idea to do BEFORE at Night and AFTER during the day? I like the idea of doing it after during the day so that my LO is always falling asleep right after his bottle but at night - not waking him up to change him.

    Thoughts?

I currently do all of my diaper changes before we feed.

  • After. He is usually so hungry and does not want to wait for even a second, so changing him after works best.
  • After. She usually pees while she eats anyway so why waste a diaper?

  • I concur with pp.  If a change must occur (with DD it always did, with DS almost never) do it between boob sides.  I would unswaddle and nurse, change diaper and reswaddle, nurse other side and put back into bed.

  • We change dd before but also sometimes after it just depends if she decides to poop or not. My DD stays awake after eating for a little bit and then if it's night time we put her back to bed. During the day she stays awake most the time and just takes cat naps. So we dont ever have to wake her up to change her.

  • Both!

I usually change before b/c it really helps wake DD up and she will eat better. I most likely have to change her soon after due to poop.

  • I tend to change LO before feedings at night, so she can sleep after feeding, and I change her after feedings during the day to wake her up for a bit. Unless she is poopy or overly wet, the she gets changed first. :)
  • This may or may not help but we actually change in the middle of feeding.  when he wakes up to eat he is usually really hungry so we feed. We leave a little in the bottle because he always is wide awake for diaper changes. having that little bit left in the bottle is enough to convince him to go back to sleep.
