How and When to tell family?

My husband keeps asking when we can tell our parents.  I want to wait till we at least get blood work done to make sure.  I want to tell them in a special way but I am just not sure how!  How did you tell them? Are you telling them yet?

Re: How and When to tell family?

  • The first time we were pregnant, we told my parents by just showing them the HPT and told DH over dinner. This time we don't plan on sharing our news with anyone until we are further along because of our previous loss. The only one we shared the news with yesterday was my mom. Her birthday is this week, so I just pretty much wrote it in her b-day card. =)

  • This is #2 for us, and we will be with entire family for Thanksgiving.... so I found a cute onsie for DS to wear on ETSY to bring him out in and have people figure it out...

  • I got DS a "Big Brother" t-shirt that he'll wear to the airport to pick up MIL, FIL, and BIL when they come for Thanksgiving. Later that day, we'll Skype with my parents while he's still wearing the shirt.

  • We are going to wait until the holidays. I'll be 8 weeks at Thanksgiving, so we'll share with DH's family then since they are coming to us. It's a bit earlier than I want to tell, but there is no way they wouldn't notice I wasn't drinking for 4 days. Then we go to my family for Christmas, which will be 13 weeks. We live far apart from our families, and I really want to tell them in person so it is worth the wait. I may tell only my sister over skype though since not telling anyone is really hard! I haven't decided how we are going to share the news, but I've been googling for cute ideas.

  • Our whole family lives overseas so we just told them over the phone/ skype. Nothing cute.

With first pregnancy we wanted to wait till 12 weeks to tell them, but my husband was so excited after first u/s (8w) that we decided to share the news them. I'm thinking this is how it's gonna happen this time too.

  • We ended up telling my parents the day we found out, we were way too excited to keep it secret! We had them over for dinner and made out a seating arrangement with the place card saying, "Grandma", "Grandpa", "Aunt". It was actually pretty hilarious to see their confusion, but they figured it out pretty fast!! We told his parents the next day, but now we are trying to wait until after our first OB visit to spill the beans to the rest of our family and friends. On a side note, my DH has subconsciously been putting his hand on my tummy in all pictures and one of them found their way on to FB and within a few minutes someone commented, "Are you preggo?!" Ahhh! Gonna have to watch that!! Good luck with your announcement!!

  • With my very first pregnancy, we made a onesie that said I Love My Aunt and wrapped it up to give to DH's sister at Thanksgiving because she had been bugging us for years to have a baby. DH's whole family was there and it was a lot of fun to see everyone's reaction.

This time around, we've told my parents because they came to visit the day I got my BFP (although I would have called my mom anyway because we are very close). We will tell DH's family sometime after Christmas and our NT scan, probably with a Big Brother tshirt on DS.

  • DH took me out hours after the HPT to buy I love Grandma and I love Grandpa bibs... for both our sets of parents...

I want to wait a couple more weeks or till we at least have a sonagram... we will then wrap them up with the bibs and hand them out...

I don't see my parents till Dec 1st so we will have to wait... but we want to tell his parents asap... so waiting is hard
