When can I use lotion on my newborns skin? We give him a sponge bath every other day, but it kind of seems dry and flakey. He is 8 days old

Most pads say do not use lotion for a few months...and note, most baby washes dry out their skin AND your LO will have a lot of skin peeling for a few weeks as they are getting use to being outside of the womb.

Yup, this. Newborns shed a lot of flaky, dry skin at first as part of their adjustment from being in the womb. The less washing (especially with soap or any kind of chemical including wipes) you do, the better. Baby's skin will take care of itself.

Our pedi told us to use aquaphor on his dry spots. We don't though. I use coconut oil and it keeps his skin super soft.
