Natural Birth

An interesting Netflix movie...

Have any of you watched "The Business of Being Born" on Netflix?

I watched it the other day...very interesting! Some of it does not really apply to me since I live in Canada, but all in all - interesting :)

  • The sequel, "More Business of Being Born" is also on Netflix and well worth the watch.

It's not on Canadian netflix (yet?).

OP, it is great. I'm also in Canada and agree that it's not all applicable, but still very interesting and informative.  I watched it when pregnant with DS1, have had 3 natural births, and recently watched it with a newly pregnant friend who is interested in natural birth.

It will probably be on Netflix in Canada in ooohhhh....2014 lol! Maybe I'll watch it with baby number 2 hahaha!

  • I watched it and it changed my view completely about birth! I didn't really consider having a natural birth until I watched it. I recommend it to every pregnant woman. My brother and SIL just found out they are expecting and they watched it after my recommendation. They liked it.

I just wanted to note that I hadn't thought it was on Netflix streaming (US) but then it appears to be after all... dunno if I'm blind or it's recently added, but hopefully Canada will see it added soon.

  • I bought BOBB maybe 2 weeks ago and I think I've watched it at least 3 times. I knew I wanted a natural birth but was going to leave the option for an epidural open. Now I'm looking into having either a home birth or at a birth center. My hospital is considered a "Baby Friendly Hospital" so if I end up having my birth there it wouldn't be terrible. My OB's office though doesn't have any midwives and I have to see a different doctor every time I go because any of them could deliver the baby. I'm not able to build a relationship with anyone. I'm meeting with some midwives at a Birth Center on Thursday so I'm really hoping it works out. There aren't many options in my area for having a midwife.

  • You can "rent" More Business of Being Born on Amazon.com or Walmart.com for $2.99 I think. You will have to check that out for details but it's an option if NetflixCAN doesn't have it.

  • I've watched it twice in the past six months, while TTC and 11 weeks into our pregnancy.  My husband is skeptical that the information might be skewed, but I take it as women giving advice based on their personal experiences.

It has definitely made me a little nervous about delivering in the hospital.  I'm worried medicine and procedures will be pushed on me, even though we're using a midwife with an OB backup.

I liked how the sequal gives additional information, especially about doulas.  Not sure if we'll go with one yet or not.  My husband wants to be my support system, which I think is sweet.... but I'm not sure how cranky I'll get during delivery.*LOL*
