How to discuss Christmas in front of children.

DH and I are usually to tired to talk after the kids are in bed.  We are usually in full veg out mode.  We do most of our talking at dinner and on weekends in front of said offspring.  Last night we were talking about Santa and Christmas presents in front of DD and she fell asleep in the restaurant.  A neighboring table kept laughing at what we were saying and we got a "well done, we spent most of our meal trying to figure out what you were saying.  That was hilarious." Here is a snapshot of our conversation.

Me:  We need to talk about year end bonus distribution for the junior members of our association.

DH: Are we talking about bonuses delivered by head office or are we talking about bonuses that are given through the Crimson Overnight Distribution Officer?

Me: Both.  I think we have taken care of most of the bonuses for the Junior members of our office we just need to figure out bonuses for the junior staff of our brother and sister offices.   Oh and we need to get things for the decorative hosiery that goes on the oil and gas distribution unit.

  • I may have to steal this! Although it may take some time for DH to catch on!

We spell a lot of words 1/2 way around here. Like squeeze packs are s-q-u-eeeeze p-a-c-k-s. It's like a secret code and it totally works!

  • Amazing! We do our talking on the way home from my run/DH &LBB's walk. LBB is usually asleep.

  • We usually email about stuff like that. I do 99% of all shopping and make most of the decisions about where and when and what to buy so I email him things I need him to do/pick up and he goes and does it lol. There is very little actual discussion.

This is us too, except without the emailing because he is no help. I just do the shopping. The only discussion we have is what he is getting me.

ETA: Sammy, your approach is genius and I have stored it away for future use.
