Prenatals $$

Just curious but what kind and how much are your vitamins each month?  I picked mine up yesterday and they are almost the exact same kind that I took with DD and they were $70, I couldn't believe it....I am NOT paying that much for vitamins!!  When I was pregnant last time they were $40 and to me, that was expensive.  The kind I got is CitraNatal Harmony.

Re: Prenatals $$

  • I buy the Up and Up prenatals from Target.  $8 for 300 pills.  I also supplement with the Up and Up DHA 4 days a week, so that's about $8 for 30 pills.

  • I cant hold down pre-natals so my Dr said taking Flinstones vitamins was ok.

However, im on Foltx due to a genetic mutation and that gives me a huge dose of folic acid, B6, and B12.

I use Target brand prenatals and DHA supplements.  I compared the nutrients to Womens One A Day and they were 98% the same.  Targets numbers were slightly higher is some nutrients.  I got a 200 ct prenatal pack for $9 and 30 ct DHA supplement pack for $8.  I haven't had any complaints about it so far, and even checked it out over the internet.  Nothing came up that stated they weren't good.

    This exactly.

  • I was doing Target brand and my aunt who is a NP decided that wasn't good enough for me, so she talked me into taking a powder vitamin by Nutrametrix.  It's about $50 for a 45 day supply.  My mom bought this bottle for me and I'm pretty sure she is buying me more for Christmas since she knows I'm too cheap to pay that much all the time.

Blu my Dr. said the same thing about Flintstones chewables.

  • Do you have a pharmacy that participates in free PNVs? We have two, so i called one to get the list of free drugs, figured out which one i wanted, and just asked my OB for that specific prescription.

  • I take the prescription my OB wrote for me and I get mine filled at Sams for $10 and they have the DHA in them already so no need to take any additional vitamins.

  • I actually asked my OB about this because I don't want to spend $45 per month on prenatals. She gave me about 6 weeks of samples to get me well past first trimester with the higher folic acid, and said to use the Target ones after that because they're pretty comparable to the prescription ones.

  • Thanks everyone! I'll check to see about the free PNV with my pharmacy but Target brand will work for me if need be.

  • I grabbed the Nature Made prenatals at Costco.  They have DHA in them and have 150 per bottle for $18.

  • I've been taking Rainbow light for months, along with Nordic Naturals DHA, both about $30 each but last several months.   When the nausea was too bad to swallow horse pills, I took the Vitafusion gummies.  I actually really like those, but they dont contain iron, so I'm switching back to the Rainbow Light.  RL is whole food based instead of made of synthetic vitamins, which I like.

  • I am taking Citra Natal 90 DHA that my doc prescribed. It comes w/ the prenatal and DHA supplement. I pay $15 for a 30 day supply at our Walmart pharmacy. I love them. They are easy on the stomach and it comes w/ a stool softener:-)

  • I love the Target brand - I was taking them for over a year before we started TTC and they have been good to me so far :) My DR was fine with them, but she gave me a prescription for prenatals since Meijer (a Walmart-type store in our area) does free prescription prentals. The only reason I didn't switch is because I love the Target ones so much!

  • I buy the Nature Made brand from Amazon.  They are even cheaper if you do the subscribe and save option (no commitment, you can cancel the subscription at any time).  They have DHA in them so only one pill per night, which I like.  Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005DEK9KE/ref=rcxsubs_mys2_product_title

  • I had generic prescription prenatals which were $4 per month even without insurance. I recently changed to chewables, which are $20 even with insurance. It's pretty pricey but it's worth it because the others made me nauseous.

  • I am taking Nutrametrix/Isotonix too and I love them. They actually HELP my nausea first thing in the morning. It's a powder you mix with water. We only absorb about 20% of tablet type vitamins and 40% of capsule type. The Nutrametrix are isotonic when mixed at the correct ratio - you absorb about 90% in 5 minutes on an empty stomach. They taste pretty good too. If the cost seems high, I'd rather take a half dose of these every day and stretch the bottle out then waste my money on tablets. You can buy them online.

  • My OB prescribed VitaMed, but it cost me $45! He said if I call customer service they'll send me a coupon.  Haven't tried it yet, though!

Before that, I used Target prenatals and I liked them.

  • Just a PSA to you ladies.  If you have a Meijer store in your area some RX prenatals are free at the pharmacy with a prescription.  I am paying $0 for mine this time and they have more folic acid than OTC ones. I think you just need to get a RX from your provider for generic prenatals. :)
