Damn vet/cats

One of my cats has been leaving little puddles of bloody pee around the house. He is trying though, one was in the tub, one in the bathroom sink, and one on the tile floor, so I am not upset with him. We don't know which cat, so dh brought both to the vet goodbye
Money. The vet called me with dh and was really concerned because one cat lost three pounds since last week and one cat gained three pounds...head in hands...you switched the names, how much faith can I have in your abilities if deductive reasoning doesn't make you question if you have them switched? 150 later and no solution, but I am supposed to collect a urine sample from both cats...ok, no problem.

Re: Damn vet/cats

  • Ugh.  Is this still the same vet who was gouging you for money for teeth cleanings and crap?  There is not way in hell a cat can gain or lose 3lbs in one week without you noticing that there are major issues going on, so clearly they got them confused.  Idiots.

That sucks about the urine sample.  Do you have a spare litter box?  'Cause then you could lock them in two separate rooms.  But I would think that the vet would have a better method of getting urine samples.

  • We went through something similar a couple month ago. One of our cats was peeing every five minutes and peeing all over the house. We took him to the vet and they said he had blood in his urine so it could be crystals. They kept him over night to collect a urine sample. It came back negative for crystals or a UTI. He was still peeing a lot so they thought it might be something more serious and wanted to do an xray. $400 dollars later... and they tell me its just stress. They couldn't find anything physically wrong with him apart from some inflammation and being dehydrated because he was peeing so often. They gave him antibiotics and said he'd probably need to be on medication for stress. He's mostly back to normal now, with only a couple accidents here and there. So we're just going to wait it out for a bit before putting him on any meds.

Hopefully they can give you a better answer than "stress". I'm glad they kept my cat over night to get a sample... I don't envy you having to get one yourself.

And seriously... they couldn't figure out that they had switched the cats?!

  • I had a cat that got kidney stones and was peering little bitty blood puddles all the time.
  • I would probably assume it is the older cat with the bloody urine but you never know. It sounds like you may need a new vet. I hope your kitty is better as we just went through that with our cat and the end result wasn't good. Hopefully one of the cats just has an infection that can be resolved with antibiotics. Keeping my fingers crossed for you all.
