Hey Ladies, I figured I would repost here because I figure there are more of you who have children in daycare. DS started daycare last month at nine months old (we had a babysitter previously since I had to go back to work when he was 3 months old). Up until now he only had one little cold that went away quickly. I was warned that once they start daycare they get sick a lot....However, this is getting rediculous! DS has literally had a cold/cough for almost 6 weeks! Consistantly! We have not had one day mucus free! It doesn't really seem to bother him so much during the day but it has distroyed his sleeping pattern. He was a rock solid STTN baby practically from birth and now he wakes up evey night due to coughing or his stuffed nose and will not go back to sleep unless we take him into our bed. We brought him to the Dr. about 3 weeks ago and he gave us the usual rundown (its fine unless he stops eating/peeing has temp. or pulling his ears from an infevtion, ect.) His cough seems to have gotten deeper so we're bringing him back today. Has anyone else been though this? If so what did you do to kick the cold? I usually do the 15 mins. of steemy bathroom and humidifer every night. The aspirator doesnt work for us, he hates it so much by the time we suck the mucus out hes so histerical its all back! Myself and DH are exhausted and feel so bad that DS has had to deal with this
Re: The Neverending Cold...Repost from 9-12 month community
When my first started daycare, my GP advised me to expect him to have a cold "the first two weeks of the month and the last two weeks of the month" for a while.
He was dead on.
Six-ish (if memory serves) months of colds, vomiting, etc. followed by years of pretty much healthy.
Same kid didn't miss a day of kindergarten due to illness.
I am no help, as we are in the same boat...sleep interruptions and all. They are on their 6th week of daycare and have been sick the whole time except for last week. And even then they had runny noses. DS developed a cough this week. I am keeping an eye on him, but so far it hasn't gotten worse. No fever or anything.
I keep a humidifier going when we are home, use saline nasal spray, and the bulb aspirator to help them a little. Not much else you can do
Everyone keeps saying that they will have one winter of sickness, then will be healthier when they start school and it counts. Hard to handle now, but I keep telling myself it will be worth it if we can get through this first winter.

It's "that" time of year for colds, and it's true that the first few months of daycare are rough as your baby is having their immune system tested.
Regular saline drops help more than just using a humidifier. My baby slept in a Rock N' Play on the nights that he was really congested. Increase fluid intake as much as you can, definitely keep an eye on them and get them to the pedi if they seem to be having trouble breathing.
Otherwise, just know that this will get better.
