LO won't drink WCM

On Friday we ditched the bottle for good. We had given him a couple of bottles of WCM since we ran out of formula but I wanted him to get through daycare Friday before we switched. He drank the WCM just fine from the bottle but absolutely WILL NOT drink it from a sippy or even a regular cup. He'll taste it and immediately throw it down. When we give him water he drinks it like he's been crawling through the desert. Any thoughts? Should I try 2 percent, maybe almond milk, give the kid more cheese, not worry about it??

Re: LO won't drink WCM

  • DD spit WCM out the first few times we gave it to her in a straw cup. Eventually she stopped and now drinks it as readily as she does water. I think it may just take some time for them to get that other liquids besides water can be in a cup. I wouldn't worry about it for a couple of days. Just make sure he is drinking enough fluids and give him yogurt and cheese. Just keep offering the WCM in the sippy. If it persists, maybe try a different type of sippy for milk and only milk...?

  • We still can't get DD to drink more than a sip or two of WCM. I still BF but she's not getting much from that. My pedi said not to worry, just keep offering it and make sure DD gets lots of cheese and yogurt. My DD will eat her own body weight in yogurt so I'm trying not to stress about it and give her time to come around to WCM eventually.

ETA: I also make sure she is getting plenty of liquids.

  • N won't either.  I am still bf'ing but supplementing a few oz a day with formula, trying to get my period back.  I don't know what to do.  We've tried every brand of organic milk and he hates them all.  I got my period back on the 13th so I guess we are just going to finish the formula we have and then switch back to nursing, only and keep trying.  Good luck!  I don't know what I would do if I weren't still bf'ing.

I've been slowly weening Nora from nursing.  She was taking a bottle of WCM great for a while, but then she decided to want to nurse more.  I've really been trying to get her away from the boob and back into WCM without doing the bottle.  I found that the organic milk works better for her.  She seems to like it more- not sure why, but I have a feeling it's a little creamier.

  • My oldest wouldn't (and still barely does) drink cows milk. We just made other dietary adjustments.
  • We are in a similar situation. E is slowly starting to drink cow's milk but it has been a process. She wouldn't take it in a cup OR a bottle so it was the taste she needed to get used to. She is getting better about drinking it. Some recommendations I had been given were to flavor the milk with a little bit of apple juice or make a yogurt milk shake to add flavor. She really loved her strawberry banana milk the other day.

  • We started transitioning to WCM in a straw cup at 10 months and it took a while but now she downs the stuff. Back then she still nursed 8 times a day so nutrition wasn't a worry and we were able to take it slowly. What I ended up doing was making straight WCM the only thing available...no juice, and water only before bed to rinse her mouth out. Now I'll occasionally give her juice and I know when grandma babysits she only gets water, but milk is still the main beverage around here.
