Anyone live in Memphis?

My husband is looking at a job opportunity that may have us moving to Memphis, TN.  It's an awesome opportunity, but neither of us have ever been to Memphis and don't know much about it.  We've heard the east side is better, Germantown, Collierville...that's about all we know.  Anyone live there?  Can you tell me about it?  What do you love/hate about it?

    Interesting!  Good to know because like I said, we've never been there and literally know nothing about the area. 

    He also has another job offer that would take us to Charlotte, NC.  We know a lot about that area, as DH used to live there and still has lots of friends there.  Just trying to weigh our options and make the best choice.

    I go to Charlotte for work a lot. I really like it, except the airport sucks. It always takes me forever to get through security.

    I live in a suburb of Memphis. Basically, it's what OP said. All the problems of a big city with none of the perks. I'd go with Charlotte and thank jeebus for dodged bullets.
