Cloth Diapering

Am I being paranoid?

I have a couple of AIOs that DS only wore a handful of times before he started getting pretty rashy.  At the same time, I was diagnosed with a possible yeast infection of the breasts because of ongoing pain with nursing.  DS's rash cleared up once I put him in suedecloth pockets.  I was prescribed an antifungal treatment, but never started it because my pain is about 90% resolved since I stopped using nursing pads.

I really want to sell these diapers because they are in excellent condition and I paid good money for them, but I feel kind of funny about it just in case they might have been exposed to yeast.  Am I being paranoid?  Do most moms bleach used diapers just in case?  What do you think?

Re: Am I being paranoid?

  • I would run them through a wash cycle with a 1/4 cup of chlorine bleach before you sell them. That way you won't have to worry about possibly passing on a yeast rash.

Totally agree, having been through the yeast/thrush cycle a couple times since having DD.

  • If you have any add about 20-30 drops of Tea Tree oil and/or grapefruit seed extract (I prefer both but many have had good success with just one or the other) to the load.  They kill the yeast spores, bleach only kills the yeast itself.  Oh, also you if you feel comfortable enough, turn your hot water heater up to 122, that temp kills yeast I was told.  Just don't forget to turn it back down.
