Going to sleep in the swing

My son is 7 weeks old and we put him in the swing (swaddled) at night which he then sleeps 8hrs. Even if he is still awake after his 830 pm feeding I will put him in the swing and it will get him to sleep with in 5 mins. My question is how long should I keep doing this and how do I get him to like his crib ( I try getting him to nap in the crib but he only sleeps for 10mins in it). TIA

  • I don't think you need to worry about this point, he is so young. Do whatever works!

  • My son is almost 3 weeks old and he's sleeping in the swing way better than his cradle right now too... but I found today if I prop him up more like with a wedge that he does better in the cradle.

I wanted to switch him back to cradle because it fits in our room which is also where the humidifier is because I noticed his breathing getting a little labored.

so hopefully this helps you... otherwise I wouldn't worry about him sleeping in his swing.

  • My daughter has been sleeping in her swing since she came home and we discovered that she didn't like her pack n play. I've decided to start transitioning at about 3 months but honestly if it doesn't work I'll probably keep her in her swing because it works and I like sleeping. Do what works and transition when you decide is the right time for you.

  • My first son slept in the swing for several weeks and he is fine.  We transitions to the co-sleeper with swaddling for a few months and then to a crib at 6 months.  He is a pretty good sleeper at night now.  From the others' comments it sounds like you shouldn't worry.  I would agree.
