I temporarily forget that the Nest has essentially died and not likely to get a response for works over there:
I am ready to scream - throw the phone across the room and see how well it shatters against the wall, etc.
I have a Samsung Galaxy II. Got it in February. I am with Sprint and have been for 14 years (if for any reason this information is needed). I HATE this phone...have not liked it since the beginning, but missed the window to return it and decided to stick it out since I have all my other gadgets (laptop, kindle fire, iPod Touch and the big fancy camera) too. I stopped into the BB store where I originally got it and asked what my options were outside of paying full price for a new phone. They could send it out for a refurbished. Is that my best option right now? Am I going to get another Galaxy only to discover it isn't just my particular phone but all Galaxies are horrible? I decided I may as well hold on to it...primarily because of the pictures/videos even though they all automatically upload to photobucket with the app. However, this morning, it has pretty much died. Dead. Totally. Well, not completely, the screen shows 'Samsung Galaxy S II' and I am guessing it will until the battery dies (which, if history repeats itself, shouldn't take too long).
What would you do? What should I do? Outside of getting this replaced with a refurbished phone since I have about a year and a half before I qualify for an upgrade, where can I legitimately purchase a new phone for some not so exorbitant price?
Re: Phone help (RP from G&T)
Is the battery removable? If so, I would remove the battery and then reinsert to see if it reboots. My not-smart phone did the same thing and the battery trick fixed it.
As for your options, I'm not going to be much help. If you are OK with a non-smart phone until your contract is up, you could get a discarded sprint phone from a friend. I'm so anti-contract at this point, this is what I did about a year ago when my last phone died. You could go back to Best Buy or a sprint store and ask about your options. Maybe the phone is still under warranty or something? With some carriers, you can renew your contract as early as a year, so you could ask about that too.
Good luck.
My two boys are getting a surprise May 2015!
My most recent old phone was relieved of it's battery by DH. While I loved that phone, it was upgrade time and after Stella was born, I dropped it many many times...making it pretty craptacular in it's own right. As for other old Sprint phones? I don't think I have a single one left. They were given to my brother or DH whenever they lost or broke a phone. I guess I am going to go to BB after work today and have them send in my phone (which, by the way is still showing the samsung equivalant of the blue screen of death) for a refurbished replacement. My IT guy here has assured me this shouldn't be bad. We'll see.
And yes...one of the first things tried was popping the battery out. And nada.
I was with Sprint forever too, and when my 2nd Evo died I switched to Metro PCS. Its prepaid and the only downside is that customer service seems to be all automated (if you have a corporate store near you, just go there). The best thing is that it is only $55 a month (including taxes and fees) for unlimited everything, and they have some really nice affordable phones.
I have the LG Motion (newest version of android os) and it was only $150. I got to keep my number from Sprint and have been really happy with everything and save $40 a month! I recommend them to everyone.

ETA - apparently there is a newer version of android now - Jellybean. The LG Motion has ice cream which is still much better than whatever was on my evo.
If you're stuck in contract right now, you can buy refurbished phones on cowboom.com
If you want a "new" phone I would try ebay or CL. Also if it seems to just be the battery that is the issues maybe you can just replace it. Ebay or Amazon have way better prices than BB or the Sprint store for batteries (ie $7 instead of like $50).
Also if you are going to look for a different phone I would avoid anything that is touch screen by Samsung like the plague. Between DH & I in the past few years we have had 4 Samsung touch screen type phones and all of them blew chunks after 3 to 6 months.
