Registry?

Hey everyone!  This is my first baby and we are having a little girl.  I was wondering when is a good time to start registering at places for baby gifts?  Does anyone know some good places to register at?  I'm new to the whole idea of this, and I have never been comfortable asking people to get me things in the first place.  Any opinions on what should definitely go on the registry and what should not?  I don't want to put too many things on there and make it seem like I am asking for too much, and I most definitely don't want to get my hopes up thinking that I'm going to receive everything we ask for.  I really just don't know much about this sort of thing.

Re: Registry?

  • I just put everything I wanted on the registry.. people get to pick you know and they don't have to buy something off of there either. And then once your due date has passed, some places like target will give you a 10% discount on anything on your registry that you buy... So it's good to put everything on them!

  • Hi there :) Congratulations on your baby girl!

I registered at Babies R Us and everything work out fine. Returns and exchanges were very easy to handle.

Here are some stuff I recommend you register for:

Genie, bottles, diapers, blankets, receiving blankets, burp cloths, lots of bibs, cleaning supplies, wipes, undershirts (short and long sleeves), bathtub, pacifiers...cant think of anything else...but those are some good stuff you must have. HTH! GL! :)

  • Register where people where go. We have one Babies R Us in the entire state and it wasn't near most people. Very few Targets as well. We went with Walmart. Easiest for everyone, myself included.

I didn't register for things like blankets because everyone buys those anyway. I would register for SwaddleMe blankets though.

I registered for: diapers, bottles, breast pump, onesies, high chair, bouncey seat, swing, jumper, bath stuff, bowls/spoons, furniture, nail clippers and such, play mat, wearable carrier type thing.

I did not register for: diaper genie (use mostly cloth anyway),  bottle warmer, wipes warmer, and a bunch of other stuff.

Keep in mind, unless you have have incredibly awesome friends and family, you will probably get very few things you register for. I have people complaining to my mom that I hardly had anything on my registry (when I had 50+ items) then buying random crap I had to return to get the things I actually needed. I only got about 8-10 things off my registry.

Also, if you don't want pink stuff, make it known. Word did not spread as I had asked and we are still dealing with a ton of pink crap.

  • we only registered at target and they give you 10% off coupon near your due date for anything on your registry the coupon is good for one day.

i would suggest registering for items cheap to expensive so their is something for everyone to buy off of. like pp said some people just don't use the registry.

we registered for bouncy seat, carseat/stroller(inlaws bought us this), jumperoo, swaddleme, diapers, wipes, bottles, breast pump, swing, rock n play, crib sheets. also when i used the 10% coupon i quick added on nursing pads and nipple cream and lotions for baby.

This!  People are busy and shop where it is convenient.  Plus, most of my family doesn't shop online.

Anyway, get tons of burp cloths.  I didn't think those were a big deal...until DD was 4 months and spit up all the time.  It passes, but there was a stage where we went through them fast.

I also really like bibs that snap versus velcro.  Velcro always sticks to stuff in the wash and can wear out.

Plus everything else that PP have mentioned :)

  • Register for everything and anything. People are going to buy you what they want anyway but this way you can have a list out there just in case. I registered at Walmart because it was close to us and then BBB because I love the store even though I had to travel 2.5 hrs to get there! TB has a registry checklist somewhere around here to help you get started. I'm mobile so I can't give you the link right now. I would go with a couple must haves such as swaddles, diapers, wipes, burp cloths, bibs, gowns are great at the beginning 0 to 3 mths, and some teething toys. I think I created my registry at the mid to end of 2nd trimester. Oh yeah, congratulations on your pregnancy.
  • Oh and burp clothes. Get the ones that are more like cloth diapers not the cute little ones. There are no point to those cute little ones.
