:-/ I got Z to sleep so early tonight compared to other nights and I was really looking forward to relaxing a bit before bed. But Z's breathing sounds awful and she keeps stirring and crying in her sleep so I think I need to head to the store for some baby Vicks and some saline. (Because somehow, we've lost both of these things - grr)
So here's my question... should I wake her when I get back and use the saline and the aspirator, or should I just put some Vick's on? And I know that I stuck it on her feet when she was a baby, do I still do her feet or do I put it on her chest?
Re: :( My baby is sick... a question
I wouldn't wake for saline, mainly because I dont think it works well enough to really make it worth it. But I guess it would depend on how easy you could get her back to sleep.
I put the vicks on DS's back so that he can't touch it. I do the feet thing too, if he's wearing footed pjs.
Thanks ladies! That trip to the store (it took 2 stores) took me an hour and a half. I hate Walmart!
I got some Vicks and put it on her back. In the end, she was sleeping on her tummy so her back was the least likely to wake her anyway. Hopefully it's enough for tonight. If she wakes up again on her own, I may do the aspirator.
Do you have a vaporizer? Using a vaporizer with the menthol pads seems to help E when she's congested and having trouble breathing.
Sadly no. I've been meaning to get one, but we haven't yet. I almost got the little nightlight air freshener looking one, but I found the little tub of Vick's pushed back on the shelf and opted for that instead. I should have gotten both.
Couple things to do for tomorrow night if she's still congested.
Prop her bed up a couple inches at the head, it will help keep the congestion out of her head. You can do it either by putting a pillow under the matress between the matress and springs or by putting 2x4 under the feed of the crib/bed at the head of the bed.
Humidifer, the cold kind not hot and put it at the head of her bed.
If she's really congested turn on the shower full blast on hot and let it run for 5 minutes to get the bathroom nice and steamy, take her in with you and spend about 15 minutes sitting on the toilet with her letting her breath in the steam. It helps a lot.
I don't know why I didn't think about the shower last night. She was up for about 3 hours in the middle of the night. I aspirated her nose, but she screamed like a banshee and sobbed like we were torturing her. I'll definitely see if I can raise her crib mattress and steam her head tonight!
Thanks again for all the help ladies! She is feeling much better today and managed to eat a whole orange sweetbread cinnamon roll and some fruit. And she is bouncing all around the house!
