I saw that you mentioned your dd doesn't sleep on her back. out of curiosity how does she sleep? my dd refuses to stay asleep on her back and i have been stressing out about putting her on her belly to sleep which is the only way to get her to sleep unless i hold her.  i know they recommend the back but something's gotta give.

Re: *.*Crazycrustacean*.*

  • I put her on her side. And I've been doing it since the very beginning. She prefers the right and the pedi said that that's the way the stomach empties so it would help with gas.?

Now we also put her on her belly. The pedi approved that too, since she's able to lift her head & turn it.

I figured that it was more important for her to get good deep sleep, than it was for me to worry about her sleeping on her back & maybe having something horrible happen. The fact that they don't really know what causes sids & to me seem like they're grasping at straws for a cause, made the decision for me. Not to mention that our parents were told to put us (30+) on our bellies and my mother was told (20 years ago) to put my sister on her side.?

Just trust your instincts. If your dd doesn't sleep, it does no one any good.?

I also use a sleep positioner to keep her on her side.?

  • ::butting in::: Conner has figured out how to roll onto his sides and refuses to sleep on his back. My pedi told me that it's fine just to be sure that he sleeps on both sides not just one or the other. He also likes his belly. I try not to put him on his belly yet but once his head control is there the pedi told me it's ok. :::butting out:::
  • Butting in as well...We also put Kailey to sleep on her side...she rolls onto it anyway if we don't. At nap times, she almost always sleeps on her belly because she's never as tired as she is at night and she sleeps the best that way.
  • thanks everyone, that makes me feel much better about making that decision!
  • Due to his reflux prob Indy hates to sleep on his back..he throws up every time.  He usually sleeps on his side or belly if hes on my chest.
