If you're trying to wean or drop some nursing sessions, how is it going?

DD has totally thrown me for a loop!  she had to be practically forced to nurse from about 8-9m til around 3wks ago.  she was so distracted and was barely spending 5 minutes nursing.  so, i figured she would be fine with slowing down after her birthday but over the past 2wks she has been all over me!! clawing at my chest, pulling down my shirt etc....

so, looks like we're not dropping any sessions anytime soon.  she's still doing 4 a day and I would love to drop the 2 during the day and just do a wake up and before  bed session.  I've tried distracting her with toys or a sippy of milk (which she has been great with at meal times) and no dice, she wants the boob.

so, how is going with your LO??

  • We're down to two sessions. One before his first nap, and one before bed. He had a two day nursing strike a few weeks ago, and I gave him WCM instead at the time. He loved it. So once he was interested in nursing again I continued giving WCM for all but the two nursing sessions. It didn't seem to phase him. Im surprised because I thought he would fight it at least a little. Eventually I will drop the nap one, and keep the bedtime one until he's ready to drop it on his own.

  • DD was doing the same thing and my breasts just couldn't take it anymore. I stopped daytime nursing cold turkey. I nursed once in the morning, and then before bed and one to two times during the night.

Then I dropped nursing in the morning and now I do it just before bed or in the middle of the night. She was really whiney and tugging on my shirt the first couple of days but now she doesn't seem affected by it.

  • we're not trying to drop any (well except night wakings, but ha! yeah right!) and like you my DD is much more boob interested these days.

I guess that it's normal for them to not nurse fewer times but get less each session. We're just rollin' with it.
