Hi Ladies,
So, at my last MFM appt I had an u/s but my MFM was called out of the office for an emergency delivery. I waited for ~ 2 hours, but decided to leave my cell phone number with the front office and they said that he'd call me to discuss the u/s.
He called that evening, no issues - growth discordance of 5%, good weights/percentiles, etc. and he told me to come back in 4 weeks and that someone from his office would call and schedule.
Flash forward to now, I checked my medical claims on my insurance providers website and I see 2 separate claims for that day, both listed as various radiology services.
I called my insurance provider to see if they were duplicates or what they were since they were only $6 different... they said one was a uterine u/s (with 2 charges, 1 for each baby) and one was an EKG (something heart related) and another type of scan for only 1 baby.
Is it normal to be doing advanced scans at 25w? I thought they already did all my scans between the 2 visits I had at 17w and 21w... esp. the heart, I thought that the heart worries were over after the scans at my 21w u/s.
Any thoughts or experience as to what they were checking for, if this sounds normal or if that means there was an issue possibly that they 'forgot' to inform me of? Sorry for being paranoid... any advice is definitely welcome!
Re: 25w U/S Question
I am 25weeks and my MFM was finally able to get a specific measurement for the heart for baby A that he has been trying to get since 16w. He tried at 21w but he couldn't get a good shot. Nothing was wrong with her heart it was just a measurement that he couldn't get because of her angle. I didn't even know about it until this past appointment when he finally got it and he said he was glad she was cooperating that day.
Yours could be the same issue. Baby was just not cooperating so your doc was just checking. My MFM is the best in the area and I put my trust in him to tell me if something is worrisome. I don't think your doctor would have forgotten to tell you something was wrong. He's probably just not concerned and it was more routine.
Thanks ladies, that makes me feel better to hear your experiences!
I had called my MFM's office, but was stressing myself out waiting for their call...
They explained that they can't bill each baby individually for some procedures (e.g., echocardiogram) so my insurance provider misinformed me. They also said that there wasn't an issue that they saw based upon the u/s performed... so all that worrying for nothing.
