Baby Position Question

Good afternoon ladies.  I have a quick question about positions.  I really would like to try for a vaginal delivery but have now been told both babies need to be head down when we start due to a hospital policy change that will take effect 2013.  They will only try a breech extraction if baby b turns breech during deliver of A. I am in love with my hospital and they are next door (skywalk connection) to Texas Children's in case larger intervention is needed so I really don't want to change.

Since the beginning both boys have been transverse bunk bed position with the bigger baby (A) on the bottom.  Every scan the only difference is baby A's head might be on the right instead of left or vise versa.  Baby B's head has always been on my left side and both are facing up.  I guess I am mentally trying to prepare for a c-section as that seems most likely in my case as I feel now 3 billion stars have to align to try vaginally.  (Honestly I don't care if I have to have a c-section as I will do what is best for all three of us, I just went into this telling myself vaginal delivery was still very possible.)

Can they still turn to be both head down or at this point (almost 23 weeks) are they pretty much going to stay where they appear to be happy?

Any experience would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

Re: Baby Position Question

  • i am 31 weeks and every u/s i have had, they have been in a different position.  My Dr. says they will move around alot until about 35 weeks when it gets real tight in there for them.  I think you still have hope for a vaginal delivery!

  • Baby A has pretty much always been head down for me. Baby B has mostly been transverse, but her angle changes quite a bit. I had a growth scan with my MFM Friday and she was oblique. By Monday when I saw my regular OB, she was head down. I have another regular OB tomorrow, so I'm curious to see if she's stayed put or not. (I was 37 weeks Sunday, so even at this late date, things can change!)

  • Thanks ladies!  That gives me some hope!  I was just curious as they have literally been in the exact same positions the entire time.

  • Ditto what pp said. You still have plenty of time. At my 24 week ultrasound one switched completely around from the beginning of the ultrasound to the end.

  • My boys were both transverse at 23 weeks. At 26 weeks they were both head down. At 28 weeks one was head down and one was breach. At 30 weeks (and ever since) they've both been head down. You still have plenty of time to shift!
