Hates being swaddled

My 6 week DS hates to be swaddled but its the only way he can get any sleep. We tried letting him sleep without but as soon as he falls asleep he moves and wakes up. When he is swaddled he grunts and tries to breakout but then gives up and goes to sleep. He does wake up during naps and struggles with it but then goes right back to sleep. He sleeps 8hrs at night so I don't want to mess that up. Also he sleeps in his swing, I'm trying to get him to sleep in his crib. Should I keep swaddling him or let him free.

Re: Hates being swaddled

  • Have you tried the halo sleepsacks with the swaddles? They seemed to work the best on my DS and didn't really make him feel like his hands were tied down. I also didn't swaddle him with his arms by his sides, I crossed them on his chest so if he really wanted to, he could get his fingers up to his mouth but stayed swaddled for the most part.

  • My DD was just like this!  She hated it, but would wake herself up without it.  I just dealt with it for awhile until a friend suggested I try the swaddle again.  Now we use the swaddle and while she does squirm out of it sometimes, it's gotten much better and now when she's really tired, she actually seems relieved when I swaddle her!  Maybe they just grow into it or get used to it??  Also, I will out her to sleep with the paci in sometimes, that seems to help the swaddle situation. Good luck!
  • My son was the same way. We use the Halo Swaddle Sleepsacks have been since second day home. We keep his arms free and only swaddle around the torso. He gets to keep his arms free yet still feel the security of the swaddle. Good luck!
