Won't go to sleep in crib anymore?

Our 9 month old daughter used to be fine when putting her to bed in her crib in her room and would sleep most of the night - now she will not lay down and sleep!  She stands up and cries or cries while laying there and just won't sleep.  The only change is that about a week ago she had her first overnight at her auntie's house but she slept in a porta crib there.  This did happen just after she got back.  Could it be that she thinks we aren't there and is having separation fears??  I hate to let her cry and cry until she tires herself out but may have to try that this weekend as our bed is not where I want her sleeping!  :)  Just looking for any advice anyone may have.

  • Is she better when you're in the room or does that just make her want to get out?  With my older child, I did the method (sorry, don't remember what it's called) where I sat by her crib the first night and even would put my hand on her chest, the second or third night I sat about 3 feet from her crib, she could see me but I didn't interact with her.  I kept gradually moving further and further until I was out the door.

When we are in there (either one of us) it just makes her want to get out - she holds her hands up for us to get her.  We try and lay her back down and she just gets back up.

  • Does she have a little lovey? If not, you might want to consider introducing one. Our son went through something similar where he would scream as soon as we left the room so we introduced one of these little guys: https://www.amazon.com/Angel-Dear-Blankie-Brown-Giraffe/dp/B000WFPWUQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1351007036&sr=1-1&keywords=angel+dear+blanket

We have three of them and we keep the spare two under our pillows so they smell like us by the time he gets them. We only give it to him at nap time or bed time and it really helped a lot. He now searches for it in his crib and cuddles it until he falls asleep.
