Reason for diarrhea!?

My LO is almost 3 weeks old and eats breast milk and formula (I'm supplementing only by an oz as my supply needs to go up). Anyways, today I heard her tummy growling as I was feeding her and an hour later her poop was liquidy! it leaked out of her diaper and everything! I freaked out, what could be the reason? Is it the formula? after that her tummy no longer growls and the last time I supplemented with formula was a couple hours ago. Should I take her to the dr now or should I wait until she has another bowel movement?

thanks in advance

Re: Reason for diarrhea!?

  • My son turned 2 weeks on Sunday, we saw his dr last Friday and mentioned diarrhea. He said to give it a week and if its still going on they will do a culture. If she's not in pain I wouldn't worry just yet. Fyi I also mainly formula feed with one or two breast milk bottles through the day.

  • Baby poop is always liquid and can definitely leak!  It doesn't sound like a problem to me.

  • Around 2 weeks my DD had a stomach bug and was having excessive diarrhea. They put her on soy formula till the diarrhea stopped then told us to return to similac advance. We did this and then the diarrhea started again. Our DD had a lactose sensitivity so we found out. Switching her to similac sensitive took away the diarrhea. Also... At the ER when we took her for the diarrhea they said if the baby is still wetting the normal amount of diapers they are keeping up with the fluid loss. We still took her in though because shewas having 12 diarrhea a day.

  • Breast milk poop is usually very runny.  It can be liquid with cottage cheese looking chunks in it.  So, it sounds normal to me.

This.  My 11 week old still has runny stools because he is EBF.  It's normal.
