My DS will be 9 months in a week and only army crawls. He gets where he wants to go but isn't exactly zooming around the house as he could in hands and knees. Anyone else? I know it's not a "milestone" I guess I just thought he'd be doing it by now.
My DD (who is now 3) did the same thing. She army crawled and was so good at it I figured she would just skip regulary crawling and go straight to walking. She did end up crawling at around 11 months and then walking around 12 months so it might still happen for your DS.
My son started army crawling around 8 1/2 months and stuck with it until just shy of 10 months! It worked for him so he didn't see the need to move up to hands and knees. One day I had him on the grass outside and he didn't want to drag himself through it so he figured out the hands and knees method but only used it in situations like that!! HA! Finally a couple weeks ago we wend to DH parents house who have brick floors and he definitely didn't want to army crawl on that hard, cold service so he stuck to hands and knees and hasn't army crawled since. :-) They all do it at their own pace in their own way.
I have a Jan 30th baby and she only army crawls as well. My DS was walking at 10 months, sure don't think DD wiil be! I'm not worried though, she is just a little slower to crawl.

don't be so sure! DD was around your DD's age when she figured out regular crawling in place of army crawling. She was standing a month later, taking steps 2 weeks after that, and walking at 10 months exactly!
Totally normal. And just so you know, my DD had zero interest in crawling one week and the next she was crawling away. It was just like one day she thought "I think I will crawl now."
After 2 years of TTC, our daughter was born on Oct 31, 2011! 7lbs 13oz 20 inches long ">
Mine was only army crawling until almost 10 months. My old college roommate is a pediatric occupational therapist and is big on the benefits of traditional crawling. She told me to support him under his belly when he was army crawling so he got the feeling of "real" crawling. She also had me use a toy to get him to crawl back and forth over my legs. He was crawling on his hands and knees within a week.
My DD didn't start crawling until right about her ninth month. She would spin circles to get places but didn't crawl until nine months and a week or so. Don't worry I think this is when they should be starting not much sooner.
My LO did the army crawl until she was about 9.5 months old and then she finally figured out that normal crawling was faster and didn't involve so much bouncing.
Don't worry, your LO will figure out their preferred way of getting around.
