Bfing didn't work and even with pumping I was still in lots of pain. I've decided to stop, but I'm not really sure how and even more so how to do it without getting any clogged ducts.
Please no comments about how I should push through it or keep trying to breastfeed. It's just not working for me or my family and a happy baby and mommy is more important to me.
Re: stopping milk production
I've heard cabbage leaves (break open the veins first) in your bra, ice, and real sudafed (the kind behind the pharmacy counter.
In your post you didnt say how long you made bf or pumping....I made it 2 months and then couldnt take it anymore. Before I decided I had had it I was feeding or pumping every 3 hours. So I started to eliminate one of the sessions at a time for a couple of days, then I stopped another session and I just keep eliminating sessions until they were all gone.
Just realize, which I did not, that after stopping all together I was still in pain...not a lot, but some. I found that hot showers and massaging was very helpful. Also pumping a quick half ounce when the pain was bad.
In the end it took about 2 weeks. Hope this helps
I had really low supply, so I just stopped cold turkey, and only had some minor engorgement pain for a couple of days. So, if you've been supplementing because of low supply, you may not need to do anything special to stop.
Regarding the decision to stop, I just wanted to say that you are absolutely doing the right thing if it's not working for you and your family. For us, BF was so, so stressful that it just wasn't worth it after a certain point. FWIW, I cried when I finally made the decision to stop altogether, but four weeks out, I know that it was the right thing to do. DD and I are both much happier, and I have actually been able to enjoy the last few weeks of my maternity leave with her. And, she is healthy and thriving! Good luck to you!
